This Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page provides clear guided information for candidates undertaking online proctored examinations using Moodle, Microsoft Teams, and the Safe Exam Browser (SEB).
The FAQs are organised by topic to help you quickly find answers related to system requirements, exam setup, proctoring procedures, technical support, and academic integrity.

System & Device Requirements
You must use a laptop or desktop computer. Mobile phones, tablets, and Chromebooks are not allowed.
Windows and macOS are supported. Linux devices are generally not supported unless approved.
Yes. A working webcam and microphone are mandatory for proctoring.
Yes, provided it functions correctly and is approved by the invigilator.
No. Shared, public, or cyber‑café computers are not allowed.
Yes. You must be able to install software and allow permissions.
No. External displays are blocked by Safe Exam Browser.
No. Tablets are not supported for SEB‑based exams.
Internet & Connectivity Issues
Yes. A stable internet connection is required for Moodle and live proctoring.
Yes, but only if it is stable and reliable.
Slow connections may cause delays or disconnections. Inform the invigilator immediately.
Reconnect as quickly as possible and inform the invigilator via Microsoft Teams.
No, unless instructed by the invigilator.
Safe Exam Browser (SEB)
SEB locks your computer to prevent cheating during the exam.
Install and test SEB at least one day before the exam.
Not recommended. It may cause delays or failure to start the exam.
No. Each exam uses a unique SEB configuration file.
SEB locks your device until the exam is submitted or an invigilator authorizes exit.
Stay calm and inform the invigilator immediately. Do not restart unless told to.
SEB itself does not record video; monitoring is done via Microsoft Teams.
SEB only allows approved websites needed for the exam.
Exam Start & Launch Process
Start Microsoft Teams first, then launch the exam from Moodle, which opens SEB.
No. Always launch the exam from Moodle.
SEB blocks new apps from starting after it is launched.
Your camera or Teams may fail, and the exam may not start.
You likely used the wrong SEB file or launched the exam incorrectly.
No. Always start the exam via Moodle unless instructed otherwise.
Microsoft Teams (Proctoring)
Teams is used for live proctoring, communication, and identity verification.
No. You must use the Microsoft Teams desktop application.
Some Teams versions (Store versions) are incompatible with SEB.

Exam Environment & Conduct

Technical Issues & Troubleshooting
